Ayyubids. Yemen. al-'Aziz Tughtigin, AH 577-593 / AD 1181-1197. 1/2 Dirham (Silver, 16 mm, 0.73 g, 5 h), Zabid, undated. Citing the ʿAbbasid caliph al-Nasir li-din Allah (AH 575-622 / AD 1180-1225) within and around a double triangle; within: ‘al-Imām Aḥmad A/bu’l-ʿAbbās / al-Nāṣir’, around, ‘li-dīn Allāh / amīr a/l-muʾminīn’ (‘Imam Ahmad Abu’l-ʿAbbas al-Nasir li-din Allah, Commander of the Believers’ in Arabic). Rev. Within a double triangle, ‘al-malik al-ʿAzīz / Ṭughtikīn / ibn Ayyūb’ (‘King al-ʿAziz Tughtigin son of Ayyub’ in Arabic); around, ‘ḍuriba hādh/ā al-dirham / bi Zabīd’ (‘This dirham was struck in Zabid’ in Arabic). Album 1090. Very rare. Beautifully toned. Some deposits and edge damage, otherwise, very fine.
